This scheme is funded by Research England (https://www.ukri.org/councils/research-england/). Research England's investment, which will be delivered through UUKi, will enable partner institutions to collaborate and develop their capacity for research and innovation in the future. It will also mean that UK universities will be able to scale up and maintain their commitment to working with their Ukrainian partners.

Program objectives.

The UK-Ukraine Research and Innovation Grants Scheme provides funding until 31 August 2023 to eligible higher education institutions participating in the UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative, coordinated by the Cormack Consultancy Group (CCG), to develop individual programs of work that meet the mutual research and innovation needs of both Ukrainian and British institutions and researchers.
The scheme offers strategic support to existing Twinning partnerships to ensure that these agreements are transfered into practical research and innovation collaborations. This will help ensure that the Twinning scheme not only supports the needs of Ukrainian research and innovation, but also the long-term strategic goals of both institutions and countries.

Program goals.

This grant scheme is funded by the UK's Official Development Assistance (ODA) contribution and must therefore be managed to promote the economic development and welfare of Ukraine as a primary objective, with any benefit to the UK or UK institutions secondary.

Expected results of the program.

  1. UK universities will have the resources to build long-term strategic partnerships with their partners in Ukraine that support the research and innovation priorities of both institutions and UK/Ukrainian research.
  2. Shared resources and capabilities to help UK universities better respond to future crises.
  3. Partnerships that can create joint research and innovation projects that will position the UK sector as a world leader in crisis response..
  4. Ukraine's university research and innovation ecosystem will receive support through the current crisis and beyond..
